Buy to let owners told to work with tenants on sustainability
issues

Buy
to let owners have been encouraged to work with their tenants
on issues regarding sustainability.
The British Property Federation's director of policy (real estate)
Ian Fletcher has suggested that landlords communicate more openly
with residents about possible changes to be made to a buy
to let property.
He said that by working together, they can "deliver the best
sustainability outcomes".
His comments follow on from GVA Grimley's research, which found
that 89 per cent of tenants do not believe their landlords interact
with them enough regarding environmental issues.
It also reported that 40 per cent of occupiers have not had contact
from their landlords over the last year concerning the CRC Energy
Efficiency Scheme, which came into effect in April 2010 and
obligates businesses to reduce their carbon emission levels through
sustainability efforts.
Mr Fletcher added that by co-operating with one another, "it is the
way that we are going to have to go to make the really big savings
and the really big contributions towards the
environment".
